  I have been curious about how to use the expression 'sense of community'. When I want to say that I like here, but I don't have a feeling that I belong here, can I say I don't have 'a sense of community'? How should I express “归属感” in English?

  我们先来看第一个问题。When I want to say that I like here, but I don't have a feeling that I belong here, can I say I don't have 'a sense of community'?

  I'm afraid you can't，严格说不可以。因为，此处的 a sense of community 的意思是“社区感”。而不是“归属感”。而你所要表达的是“归属感”。什么是“社区感”呢？首先大家都知道 community 的意思，指社团、社区。比如同住一个区域里的人 the local community；有共同兴趣或利益的团体 the business community。那么 a sense of community就是一个人对社区或社团的感觉。不论你是不是一个社团的成员，你都可以有这种感觉。举个例子吧，比如，电影里有这么一个画面：龙卷风之后一个村落小学被夷为平地，村里各家各户，有钱出钱，有力出力，大家齐心协力很快就把学校重建起来了。从而展示了一种强有力的社区感、社区精神 a strong sense of community。

  下面看第二个问题，如何表达“归属感”呢？英语就是 a sense of belonging。这里的

  belonging 是动词 belong 的动名词。意思是 be a member of ，即：成为一个家庭或社团、社区的成员，并且对这个社团、社区、家庭或地方具有亲和力，从情感上难以割舍，也就是to have an affinity for a specified group or a place。请看例句。

  She's always wanted to go back to her hometown where she has a sense of belonging.

  她总是想回家乡去，在那里她有一种归属感。

  With my kids around I feel a sense of belonging.

  有孩子们在身边让我感到有一种归属感。

  最后，让我们拓宽一下。除了 a sense of belonging 和 a sense of community 之外，英语里有许多含有 a sense of… 的表达方式，意思是“…… 感、感觉”。下面我罗列了一些最常用的表达方式：
